My Learning Journey
Metaphor For Teaching Online
We were asked to come up with images as a metaphor of our learning journey through OLTD, online learning and teaching graduate diploma. As I began this process the first image that truly spoke to me of a journey was the photo of a pathway in a forest. Through exploration and revision I came up with the images you see here. For me a journey often takes the form of exploring the great outdoors. I truly enjoy hiking in the mountains,
the goal being to reach the summit but of equal importance is the journey itself. Living on the west coast we often move from foggy valley bottoms to more mountainous areas. Following the trails takes one first to the open meadow. Where one wants to get to is the more challenging slopes as this moves you further along on your journey. Eventually one makes it to the summit. You know you have reached the end of your journey when you are rewarded with that fabulous view. To get there you need a sturdy pair of hiking boots. Often you hike in the company of liked minded people.
Technology as a resource helps us reach our destination.
My journey in this course began with my past experiences, teaching first in a face to face classroom and in recent years in a hybrid DL school, which offers both face to face and distance learning. Through this graduate degree program I am being guided on a learning journey. I am both a student and an educator. I know at times it will be a challenge. My growth as a teacher and the pride of accomplishment will tell me I have reached the end of this stage of my learning journey. To get there I will need a personal computer. My learning community is my fellow students, our teachers, my colleagues and the many other like-minded people that I connect with both face to face and online. The online resources available to me are unlimited. But I need a discerning eye to choose those that will truly be helpful in guiding me in the right direction, on this learning
journey.
