Over the nine years since I began teaching in distributed learning I have seen a lot of change. I have gone from offering courses that are mostly paper based to using online learning management systems, with a paper based option if this better meets my students' needs. As we are a hybrid program we continue to offer a face-to-face component along with offering courses totally online. Technology is continually evolving. There are many new tools and resources in the field that are available to enhance online courses. As I move through this online learning and teaching graduate diploma I am looking forward to further exploring
ways that I can enhance my online teaching and looking to the research and how to apply it to best practices. I look forward to: “exploring the continuum of learning that can take place in online environments from supplementing face-to-face teaching to mounting hybrid/blended or fully online courses; further investigating theories, models and strategies that can be applied to best-practices in online communication; exploring learning management and content management systems for hosting and organizing online learning activities; exploring the underlying philosophy of the open resource movement and identifying quality OER resources, including a variety of media, software, and platforms; learning about the philosophy of Web 2.0 and then investigating the educational use of social media in an online environment; exploring the use of cloud for education; examining the underlying concepts driving the adoption of mobile and gaming technologies in education; and examining emergent and evolving learner environments and technologies, as well as investigating educational application of tools along with environments to enhance student engagement.”
As a teacher and a student time is of a premium. At this point in “the journey” my question is: How can I best utilize my time so that I can apply to my own teaching/courses what I am learning in OLTD?
