Not a lengthy read, very informative: The Pedagogical Foundations Of Massive Open Online Courses
Abstract: In 2011, the respective roles of higher education institutions and students worldwide were brought into question by the rise of the massive open online course (MOOC). MOOCs are defined by signature characteristics that include: lectures formatted as short videos combined with formative quizzes; automated assessment and/or peer and self–assessment and an online forum for peer support and discussion. Although not specifically designed to optimise learning, claims have been made that MOOCs are based on sound pedagogical foundations that are at the very least comparable with courses offered by universities in face–to–face mode. To validate this, we examined the literature for empirical evidence substantiating such claims. Although empirical evidence directly related to MOOCs was difficult to find, the evidence suggests that there is no reason to believe that MOOCs are any less effective a learning experience than their face–to–face counterparts. Indeed, in some aspects, they may actually improve learning outcomes.

Learned further the value, as through a tweet I discovered Alec Couros, our instructor, was in Victoria. Met up for lunch, Barb's Fish and Chips Fisherman's Wharf. Had a great conversation about Twitter, and around pedagogy and MOOCs in relation to my week 5 blog post, as well as about building communities and feeling connected. Final project question asked, at the time not sure but said it would some how come to me and it has.
In looking for info to include in the Google Online Presentation Tools doc Michael has created, for OLTD, I went back to Glogster and found they have a blog. In the blog I came across this link to a number of different free Avatar sites.
Hello all,
Looking to contribute to the learning of others, one of the focuses of this course. I think responding to the comments of others on our blog posts meets this. I wrote about Concerns Relating to MOOCs in week one and Creative Commons Licensing and OER in week 2 but received no comments. So if you have a minute please take a read and leave a comment. I will most certainly respond.
RT@ QuoteSite Tumblr, "I'm not addicted to Twitter. I only tweet when I have time: lunch time, break time, off time, this time, that time, anytime and all the time." One tweet that is too long to retweet to a specific twitterer or hashtag, so thought I would share it here.

Google+ Community-Week 6
Twittered extensively this week. Check out ( June 1-June 8)
